Trade effluent is any liquid that’s discharged into the sewer from a business, industrial or trade process. These include food and drink production, chemical manufacture, engineering, swimming pools and vehicle washing facilities. This can be treated by an on-site effluent treatment facility. Unless a consent to discharge permit has been approved by the local water authority to go to the foul sewer.

Drain tags are available in 4 vibrant hues, adhering to British drainage colour codes:

Blue: Surface Water (SW)
Red: Foul Water (FW)
Green: Trade Effluent (TE)
Yellow: Unmarked*

*Yellow markers are universal, and can be used for marking interceptors, grease traps, or even pathways to reception.
